SHOVELS & ROPE RELEASE THEIR MINIMALIST ROCK-HEAVY NEW ALBUM SOMETHING IS WORKING UP ABOVE MY HEAD ON DUALTONE RECORDS
NASHVILLE, TN – The acclaimed husband and wife duo Shovels & Rope release their highly anticipated sixth studio album Something Is Working Up Above My Head (Dualtone Records). The new collection finds the beloved Charleston, SC band leaning more heavily into the rock and punk influences that have always resided near the surface of their signature sound. Listen to the raw and passionate new track “Te Amo” HERE.

"Greetings! Here is our newest record, Something Is Working Up Above My Head. It’s a bit of a dark beast, but we’d like to think that it comes with as many hearts as it does rows of teeth. It’s definitely approachable, but don’t put your hand in its mouth. We are grateful to everyone who has followed us through the years as well as anyone who may just now be discovering us. We intentionally made this record to replicate the way we sound live. Come see us and find out. Buy it, stream it, love it, leave it, let it scratch and sniff around. And if you like it, tell a friend. Love, MT & CA."

“Less-is-more” is philosophy that has always been a part of the Shovels & Rope approach. The two-member team of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent perform intimate and powerful live shows that exude the sound and energy of a six-piece band, while commanding the undivided attention of even the most enthusiastic audience at any given moment. This “less-is-more” ideal has never been more fitting than on Something Is Working Up Above My Head.

For the new album, Hearst and Trent altered their approach to recording and chose to simplify their process even more than their tried-and-true method of operation. This time around, they chose to only utilize instrumentation they can recreate live as a two-piece – their only live configuration. This is in opposition to recording first, then working out the arrangements for the performances. The result is a vibrant yet minimalist set of songs that fit soundly within the impressive and celebrated body of work they have amassed over nearly 15 years. Shovels & Rope show no signs of slowing down.
